Turntables with a Built-in PreAmp

turntables with built-in phono pre-amp

Looking for a simple and streamline option? These turntables have a Phono Pre-Amplifier built into them allowing you to plug them directly into your active speakers and away you go, no extra components needed!

And what exactly is a Phono PreAmp?
In a nutshell all turntables produce a phono output signal which is super weak & wont be heard though any speakers.
The phono signal needs to be converted to a LINE LEVEL signal (sometimes referred to as AUX signal) to work with audio equipment including stereo systems, computers, and speakers. A phono preamp basically boosts the volume up and converts PHONO to LINE LEVEL.

One of the single most important components in any vinyl replay system is the phono pre-amp itself. Low distortion and high headroom are vital to ensure optimum reproduction.Technology,of course, has vastly improved the quality of phono preamplifiers since their original heyday in the 1960's to the 1980's.Today even the phono preamplifier inbuilt into current amplifiers or certain turntables is significantly sonically superior. There is also a large range of stand-alone component phono preamplifiers if you find a turntable without an inbuilt phono preamplifier and still require one.It is important to match the quality of the phono preamplifier with the performance quality of the selected turntable. We are happy to give guidance if required.

What are active speakers you say??
An active speaker has self-powered amplification and an inbuilt volume control and does not require an additional amplifier or stereo system.Active speakers can come in the form of a pair on in the case of Sonos a single speaker in the their Play 5 Mk 2 model. An active speaker will always have a power cord and generally have an AUX or RCA (red & white) or a single 3.5mm headphone plug style jack input. We can provide optional adaptors if the turntable has hard-wired standard output leads (2 RCA) and requires conversion to the 3.5mm style.Sonos also have a product called a "Connect" which will allow you to connect your turntable into the Sonos WiFi world and play your vinyl through other Sonos products in their range.
