Pro-ject’s DC Debut Carbon turntable is one of the highest selling turntables in the world. And it’s with good reason. The Debut Carbon turntable has been a ground breaking go-to deck for those vinyl lovers who want to take advantage of modern technology bringing the atmospheric sound of vinyl to all at a very affordable price.A substantial sonic improvement comes with the inclusion of the highly acclaimed Ortofon 2M Red cartridge/stylus combination. The 2M stylus features an eliptical stylus with is a much finer cut of diamond that not only extracts more information from the record grooves but decreases record wear due to its larger footprint in the groove thus spreading the stylus pressure.

In a growing marketplace for quality modern technology turntables, few offer the design, features, and finish of Pro-ject’s DEBUT Carbon DC. Introduced in the nineties, Pro-ject’s DEBUT turntables were a revolution for the hi-fi industry. The broad acceptance of the Compact Disc had analogue music pegged as dead technology, but it was Pro-ject’s Debut series, the first affordable “mass-market” analogue product since the CD, that reinforced the definitive value of vinyl’s audio reproduction.

Well over a decade on and Pro-ject continued to fine-tune their DEBUT table with precision detail. Most notably, the inclusion of a carbon fibre tonearm. Carbon tubes increase stiffness and decrease resonance, making them more responsive while at the same time less susceptible to resonant vibrations that cause distortion. Due to production costs, it’s normally the kind of material reserved for high-end tonearms on high-end tables. Not with Pro-Ject. In addition to this is the increased platter size and weight for improved rotation and overall sound quality. Plus, thanks to its low noise AC motor and effective decoupling, the precision frequency DC-driven AC generator increases speed stability without increasing unwanted vibration. What all that means is that the motor, which is ultra quiet, is also suspended from the table's platter, further isolating your playback from unwanted vibrations that cause distortion.

The ProJect Debut Carbon provides that first taste of the real warmth vinyl music is so often touted to produce and the reason why so many are returning to records as their preferred choice of playback. The Project DEBUT Carbon DC is a serious table offering a serious listening experience and the perfect addition to any home hi-fi system.

In terms of tonal balance, the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon and Ortofon 2M Red combination sounds neutral with crystalline highs and velvety mid-range.It's a clean, insightful sound that digs deep to reveal all manner of texture and nuance in the music. All the while, the deck keeps a firm grip on the musical structure, with a good level of rhythmic precision. It’s expressive, clearly displaying a good deal of subtlety and fairly wide dynamics.Every little attention to detail for damping has paid off as the Pro-Ject doesn’t pick up any noise from the motor. The turntable is extremely quiet, which lets you hear more of the record itself instead of the hum of a motor or the subtle vibration of an a poorly damped turntable.

The Pro-Ject Debut Carbon and Ortofon 2M Red combination is a fine-sounding package for the money.
