the amplifier - valve warmth

Ah, valves. How we like their delicacy, sonic warmth and the way they light up. There are still valve amplifier manufacturers that work tirelessly to emulate that rich sound of the valve amplifier era. Prima Luna is an American company that designs and manufactures valve amplifiers that not only reproduce that classic valve sound but have made several improvements that enhance the sound quality and reliability of valves. They have designed a sophisticated adaptive auto bias system while running tubes at the minimum dissipation or power and giving more slam and bandwidth through superior output transformer design.

One of the pitfalls of valve amplifiers for all their sonic sweetness is the lack of bass slam and definition.Prima Luna has solved this problem by being one of the only manufacturers in the world that actually designs and winds their own power transformers in-house. The transformer within an amplifier provides the "horsepower" that make the speakers perform to their maximum. In building their own transformers they maximise power quality not quantity and that is what gives bass performance. Every Prima Luna Valve amplifier is handmade and uses point to point wiring, the same as the famous Marantz valve pre and power amplifiers of the 1960's.

the turntable - hand made in the usa

Mobile Fidelity is the company from the 1970's and 1980's responsible for the Half Speed Mastered vinyl recordings which have become folklore. They still produce what is considered to be the best vinyl recordings available. Drawing on 5 decades of making the world's best sounding records, Mobile Fidelity has designed a range of turntables, cartridges and phono that continue the Mobile Fidelity tradition of getting you closer to what the original artist intended. Designed in collaboration with some of the world's finest audio designers, StudioDeck features an incredible amount of ingenuity and technology usually reserved for much more expensive products.

The Mobile Fidelity Studio Deck comes with a Delrin platter whose highly crystalline structure presents a wonderful impedance match to vinyl records, effectively grounding unwanted noise and keeping it away from the stylus. The tonearms are custom developed and manufactured in the USA. It has an isolated synchronous motor with advanced dampening materials that decouple the motor from the rest of the turntable.

The Studio Tracker cartridge is made in Japan. MoFi cartridges are designed by looking back at where a record starts: On a lacquer cutting lathe like the model used at Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab. They follow the same layout as the cutting head responsible for making grooves on vinyl LPs. They also produce the Studio phono stage which is made in the USA and replicate the wide bandwidth transparency Mobile Fidelity mastering engineers demand.

the phono stage - awesome

StudioPhono replicates the wide bandwidth transparency Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab mastering engineers demand. Tim De Paravicini, the designer responsible for the Mobile Fidelity Gain2™ Ultra Analog cutting system, assisted with the internal circuitry to ensure your analog system at home faithfully reproduces the music buried in the grooves of your LPs.

With selectable gain and loading, you will be able to tailor StudioPhono to match nearly any moving-magnet or moving-coil cartridge on the market. A readily accessible bank of toggle switches can be found on the unit’s underside to quickly make adjustments without the need for any tools.

Two selectable toggle buttons on the top of the unit can engage Mono or Subsonic filter mode. If you're a fan of mono recordings, vintage or reissues like the Beatles in Mono box set or the Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab Bob Dylan Series, the Mono mode will come as a revelation. It will improve image stability and generate richer tone.

"what the crew think"

Sweetness and sonic detail envelop the listener and take them on a magical journey of vinyl delivering its atmospheric sound through the "live" presence of the legendary Klipsch speakers - "Welcome to the Pleasuredome".
