Audio Technica AT-LPW40WN Turntable

The AT-LPW40WN is a fully manual, belt-drive turntable designed to give you optimal high-fidelity audio reproduction from vinyl. It features an aesthetically pleasing anti-resonance MDF (medium density fibreboard) plinth with simulated walnut wood veneer to limit low-frequency acoustical feedback and a sensor-monitored motor to ensure accurate platter rotation speeds at 33-1/3 and 45 RPM.

The turntable includes a straight carbon-fibre tonearm with adjustable tracking force and an AT-HS4 universal ½"-mount headshell with an AT-VM95E Dual Moving Magnet phono cartridge. Audio-Technica has been a leader in phono cartridge design for more than 50 years, and that expertise shows in the versatile, high-performance AT-VM95E cartridge, which comes with a 0.3 x 0.7 mil elliptical stylus, but is also compatible with any VM95 Series replacement stylus, offering a wide choice of options for every budget and application.

The AT-LPW40WN is equipped with a built-in selectable phono preamp and a detachable dual RCA output cable to enable direct connection to components with or without a dedicated phono input.

Using its expertise and building on its rich heritage, Audio Technica is introducing a new wood-based, belt-drive turntable, the AT-LPW40TN, both with Audio-Technica ’s natural, balanced and refined sonics signature and, according to Audio Technica, delivering high-fidelity audio performance far beyond its price level.

Alongside an aesthetically pleasing, interior-friendly design and profile, the turntables’ wood-based chassis have been chosen for their natural acoustic and anti-resonance properties. The Audio Technica uses high-density wood which minimises any feedback generated from low-frequency energies. Unwanted vibrations are further reduced by a professional-level, anti-resonance, die-cast aluminium platter with a rubber mat.

The turntable includes a straight carbon-fibre tonearm which offers superior rigidity for greater control when playing. It is fitted with an AT-VM95E Dual Moving Magnet phono cartridge from Audio Technica's recently introduced VM95 cartridge series. The VM-95 body is an example of Audio-Technica’s dual-magnet design and in the 95E is partnered with a bonded elliptical stylus that is mounted on an aluminium pipe-style cantilever. The body has been designed to reduce resonance and feels a whole lot more substantial than the original AT-95E.

The AT-VM95E is a significant step forward. It brings an extra helping of refinement and civility that doesn’t affect its ability to get stuck in and enjoy itself. Vocals are the main focus and the level of tonal realism is entirely convincing. Audio Technica claims the AT-VM95E improves on the AT95E’s output level, dynamic range and frequency response, with its aluminium cantilever, elliptical stylus and new coil design delivering an increased output of 4mV.
