The Aria 906 is faithful to the DNA of the Aria range: refined high-end acoustics combined with excellent perceived value thanks to the use of noble materials. This 2-way loudspeaker allows users to enjoy all the qualities of the Flax cone: neutrality, presence and finesse.
Aria was the first line of loudspeakers to benefit from Flax speaker driver cones. The Flax sandwich cone works wonders on voices, making them more intelligible and giving them more relief. The sonic qualities of the Flax cone deliver neutrality, presence and finesse.Flax cone drivers are characterized by their natural sound, with low coloration, their richness of reproduction in the midrange register and their tighter bass. The result is a more homogeneous sound, improved dynamics. The flax cones are made in France exclusively by Focal, the cones are entirely oriented towards acoustic performance.
For the TNF tweeter, Focal have brought two major evolutions to their aluminum/magnesium tweeter. The suspension between the dome and its bracket uses Poron, a material with shape memory. This suspension method is directly derived from the famous Utopia Beryllium tweeter, The inverted dome’s spatial characteristics and very low directivity guarantees an incredibly stable sound stage which makes the listening position much less critical.
The 906s are tonally balanced and well integrated. The clear treble, direct midrange and rich low-end play together nicely enough to sound exciting with a variety of music styles. Central to its performance is its irresistible midrange body, which lends the 15" tall 906 a nicely weighted tonal balance and dynamic composure. At moderate levels its imaging is well focused, and the spread of a soundstage is broad and unbroken. It’s a mature, stable performance with considerable polish. And yet, the Focals aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty. Far-reaching dynamics ensure there’s strong kick where necessary, and a keen sense of timing drives tracks along confidently without seeming pushy. Other instruments that routinely stir things up in the lower middle octaves are piano, woodwinds like bassoon, and heavy brass along the lines of tuba and trombone. The 906 captures the tonal and resonant densities of these instruments like few speakers in this class have before.
The Focal 906's are a big sound for starters. There’s a sense of scale here that you will rarely, if ever, hear at this price. It’s tall, wide, and effortlessly encompassing. It’s also muscular, with enough authority to hold you to your seat, but not so much that you feel bullied. That has a lot to do with the 906's bass, which is abundant, weighty and nicely extended. Despite the size and power of the sound, the level of control is impressive. The key virtues that set the 906 apart are its wide micro-and macro-dynamic envelope and quick transient attack.
