Contrary to popular belief, you can’t just plug a turntable into some speakers and start jiving to your old Nana Mouskouri LPs. It’s a little more complicated than that. So we’re gonna explain the six core components essential to any Hi-Fi system: turntable, cartridge, pre-amplifier (phono stage), amplifier (power amp), cables, and speakers. While a variety of available products will integrate some or all of these components, bypassing the need to buy each piece individually, there’s no music without all of these six core components in your Hi-Fi system. So lets start with your Turntable.
